Why do I chicken out?

..when I like a guy and he likes me I basicly sabotage the whole situation, I start getting scared on what may happen and chicken out. But when im not close to a guy I like I start wishing that I did have a relationship. Its weird ( also if we, me and this guy I like, get together, he'll be my very first boyfriend.)
